Over 16,000 steps today. [[suzhou_lingering_garden|Visited the Lingering Garden in the afternoon]] and stayed until they were about to close. The heat was brutal, but the Lingering Garden's restrooms turned out to be an unexpected sanctuary of air conditioning.
In the evening, I was about to head straight back to the rental, but then it hit me — this was my second-to-last day in Suzhou. I wanted more memories, so I rallied and went to Jinji Lake.
Compared to the Lingering Garden, it was much cooler here — partly the proximity to water, partly because it was evening and the sun had lost its edge.
I stayed until dark, catching the full golden hour and blue hour.
During golden hour, the low sky turned a sweep of gold. A guy walked over and asked me to take his photo.
He handed me his camera, explained how to focus, and went to pose. I fiddled with the focus for ages — hopefully what he ended up with wasn't completely blurry.

These days, many cities look interchangeable. What makes this place distinctive is how the buildings cluster around the lake.
Walking along the promenade at an easy pace, you catch a faint scent of the water. The atmosphere is almost like being by the sea — Jinji Lake feels like a small bay.
After the sweltering afternoon at the Lingering Garden, the evening here was a relief. A cool breeze drifted off the lake, ripples lapped gently, willow leaves swayed, and the wind on your skin felt so pleasant that your whole body relaxed — a sense of melting into nature.
